Last update

Hello again! Here’s my last update before D-Day. Only 2 weeks to go!

The training intensity and duration has increased, and I feel it in my muscles. Fortunately, the knee pain hasn’t come back and I’m very grateful for that. My longest slow long run will be this weekend and by now, despite the challenges, I’m feeling quite confident that I can attain my goal of finishing this half-marathon.

My life has pretty much revolved around this preparation for the past few months. I’ve been completely focused on the running, the training, listening to running podcasts, trying out energy gels and isotonic drinks and talking about this preparation all the time. The upcoming weeks will bring relief not only to my muscles but also to my family, friends and colleagues, who have patiently endured my running-centric conversations.

I am aware that the finish line signifies the conclusion of a chapter that has punctuated my life for the past several months but hopefully, is also the beginning of a new one where running becomes part of my life.

Whatever the outcome of this day is, going through this process will have had a big impact on me. It's more than just miles and sore muscles; it's about finding a stronger, more resilient version of myself. So, here's to the last stride, the finish line, and the crazy adventure that this half-marathon prep has been.

Second update

Hello everyone! Here’s an update on my journey towards the half-marathon with the 'Best Us' program. While the road has been filled with challenges, setbacks, and unexpected twists, the journey has also been marked by personal growth, determination, and the invaluable support of a fantastic running community.

Dealing with Setbacks

Unfortunately, I had to pause the running for a few weeks because of a knee injury. It was disheartening to miss these weeks, especially when I saw others sprinting ahead. However, this setback has been a learning experience to remind myself to focus on my own journey rather than measuring myself against others. Understanding that everyone's journey is unique has been a crucial mindset shift and I'm learning to celebrate my own progress.

With the guidance of my coach, Laura, I've decided to resist the urge to ramp up my training load. The risk of reinjury is a valid concern, and I'm reminded to stay focused on the process rather than the end goal.

A Source of Inspiration

In this journey, I've been fortunate to have a tremendous source of inspiration within my unit – several colleagues who generously share their experiences and my colleague Rémy, who has set his sights on running the full marathon. Despite the differences in our categories, Rémy's unwavering drive and constant encouragement have been a real source of motivation. His presence has turned this solo endeavor into a shared experience, and I'm genuinely grateful to have him by my side.

Nine Weeks to Go

With nine weeks remaining until the half-marathon, there's a mix of excitement and anticipation. As I navigate these remaining weeks, I'm reminded that this journey is not just about crossing the finish line but about the growth, resilience, and connections forged along the way. I'll continue to focus on my own progress, trusting the process, and relishing the support of those who share this incredible journey. I'm setting my sights on the upcoming half-marathon with a renewed sense of determination and excitement.

Here's to the next phase of training and the boundless possibilities that lie ahead!

First update

Hello everyone! My name is Diane and I am a business consultant from Unit FR in the Avignon office. Today, I'm excited to share a special journey I've embarked on as one of the Ambassadors of the 'Best Us' program. I aim to run a half marathon on the 24th of March 2024. I’m 58 years old and I’ve never run, so I’m starting as a beginner and a half-marathon is a huge challenge for me.

The Starting Line

What makes this journey particularly special is the source of motivation that fuels it - my daughter, who took up running a few years ago. Witnessing her transformation through running events, I found myself inspired to explore the world of running and the physical and mental benefits it promises. It's my aspiration to not only keep pace with her, but to also stand shoulder-to-shoulder in future running events.

A Foundation of Support

One of the most remarkable aspects of the 'Best Us' program is the incredible support and resources that Sofico provides. From expert coaching to top-notch running material, every aspect has been meticulously arranged to ensure our success. This level of commitment from Sofico is a motivating force, underscoring the importance of this endeavor for both personal and collective growth.

Our expert coach Laura is also an invaluable pillar of support on this journey. She doesn't just provide a generic training plan; she tailors each workout to our individual fitness level, challenges, and aspirations. There's a genuine reassurance in knowing that every step of the way, Laura will be there with insightful guidance and encouragement.

The Road Ahead

We’re now into the second month of training but unfortunately, I had to slow down because of knee pain. My motivation is still very high and I intend to do everything I can to go back to running very soon.

This journey is about more than just crossing a finish line; it's about proving to myself and others that with the right mindset and support, we can achieve remarkable feats at any age.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. Here's to the miles yet to be run!
